The DMS Pitchforks landed in 3rd place at the show choir competition Feb. 11. The competition took place in the Duncan High School Auditorium.
Judges for the show choir contest based scores on how well the teams performed while singing and dancing.
“We did OK, but I feel we could be more in sync and put our bodies into the dance and entertain,” eighth-grade Pitchforks member Carleigh Nalley said.
The Pitchforks will get another chance at show choir glory with another competition on March 25 in Edmond.
Members of the DMS show choir were selected by DMS choir director Courtney Miles. The class has been used to help students find their voices, improve their movements and help with confidence.
Many of the Pitchfork members expressed that they find show choir to be a positive experience.
Eighth-grader Jaylee Hornbeak said she has a great time in show choir.
“Dancing and singing at the same time is very fun,” Hornbeak said.
At the show choir competition, the Pitchforks stayed and watched the other show choirs since this is their only opportunity to watch others and improve what they think they can. From watching the other show choirs, Pitchfork members have things they know they can improve for the next competition.
“We all had a good time and improved so much from this competition,” Nalley said.
The show choir has many competitions and are hoping to improve many things from their last competition.
Miles said that choir and the performances takes the time to create, especially when it comes to students learning and her teaching the choreography.
Izabel Millan, a seventh-grade member of the Pitchforks, said the success of the group not only reflects the talents and hard work of the show choir students, but it also showcases the dedication of Miles.
“Ms. Miles is a great teacher and helps us with so much stuff,” Millan said.
