Editor’s Note: This is the second of two parts about the Duncan Middle School Veterans Day celebration. This part will focus more on the afternoon sessions.
Friday, Duncan Middle School had a Veterans Day assembly in the morning and station during the last two hours of the day.
Eighth-grade students had a chance to perform a poem during the assembly. Students who did, received bonus points in their English classes. The assembly was in the gym and was open to parents and veterans.
“It was cool and good,” Austin Brown, eighth-grader, said.
Brown said he thought it was a good opportunity to learn about veterans.
Aiden Standifer was a Boy Scout in Troop 4434, who acted as a member of the color guard. Standifer got to place one of the two flags during the assembly.
He said the assembly is important so the veterans can be remembered.
