Now that’s it’s officially past Labor Day, students are teachers are settling into their new schedules.

School for Duncan Middle School (along with the rest of Duncan Public Schools) started Aug. 14. Student requests for schedule changes took place ended Aug. 22, leaving some students stuck in classes they may not necessarily like.
Today kicked off the Advisory schedule, where math and English teachers will get to pull students twice a week for interventions and STEM/science teachers will get to pull students one a week. All other students will be following a set enrichment schedule.
Creed Jackson said he liked most of his classes, but he had one class he didn’t like because of the teacher. Jackson, a sixth-grade student at DMS, was one of the students who requested a schedule change and got out of another class he did not like.
He said he was nervous to start middle school because he was kind of worried about finding his classes and what they would be like.
Jackson isn’t the only student who had some issues with his classes this year.
Maddox Bonham, a DMS seventh-grade student, said the beginning of school has gone well but he does have a class he’s not a fan of. Bonham said he likes his teachers, but said he doesn’t like one of his classes because of the students in it.
He said he wished Summer Break could have been longer, so he could play more “Call of Duty.”
Kinslee Burney, an eighth-grade student, she was ready for Summer Break to end and for school to start.
Burney said she likes her class schedule this year. She said she got all the classes she wanted.
Bonham and Burney said that the benefit of school far exceeds the alternative. Bonham already has plans to attend college and achieve a degree.
Jackson, on the other hand, doesn’t like school because he finds it boring.
