The cheer squad has been successful so far this school year.
Anniston Phillips’ favorite part of cheer is being with friends, but her least favorite part is conditioning. Phillips, a DMS seventh-grader, feels like the cheer season has been going well and the cheerleaders all work together.
“I feel that our effort as a whole could be a little better,” she said. “I wish I had put in more effort.”
Phillips feels as if her coach has coached them very well, and she is planning to cheer in high school. She loves her team because of how supportive they are.
She thinks cheer is a sport, not an activity.
Caylin Copland’s favorite part of cheer is getting to cheer at games when everyone is hype. Her least favorite part of cheer is when they have to practice in the summer when it’s hot.
Copeland, another seventh-grader, said she feels her attitude could be better. She wishes she had been louder at games. She thinks her coach has been tough but fair.
She’s not completely sure whether she’ll continue doing cheer in the future. She also believes that cheer is a sport, not an activity.
Bricelyn Brown also said cheer is a sport, not an activity, and she felt very strongly about it.
Brown, an eighth-grader at DMS, said her favorite part of cheer is making people happy, and her least favorite part is when a crowd is unenthused because it’s hard to keep being loud and happy.
She feels this season has been very successful. She thinks they could have a better attitude. She wishes she had been louder.
She feels her coach has made them a successful team. She is going to do cheerleading in high school.
Isla Martin’s favorite part of cheer is the uniforms, but her least favorite part is having to prioritize cheer.
Martin, another eighth-grader, feels this team is really good, but they sometimes don’t try as hard as they should. She wishes she had been more social with the crowds. She feels this season has been going well.
She is not going to cheer but she is going to do pom in high school instead.
She loves her team.
