Signs promoting the Academic Team tryouts are present on lockers and in the hallways at DMS.

The team can take six to eight students with only four people competing at a time. This year’s sponsor is Jenny Sutherland, a DMS seventh-grade math teacher.

Henry Spoering, eighth-grade student, said the Academic Team has a lot of fun as they prepare for their meets. Spoering said some of the things the team does is practice triving, go to meets, do the judging system, use buzzers and have a lot of fun.

This is Spoering’s third year to go out for the Academic Team. If he makes it, it will be his third consecutive year to be active in the extra-curricular.
