Duncan Middle School football teams went up against Lawton Ike on Tuesday, both with varying levels of success.

The seventh-grade team ran away with their win, while the eighth-grade game maintained a close score throughout, ending with Lawton Ike coming out ahead.
Seventh-grade football players took to the field at 5 p.m. By the time the game had wrapped, the team had walked away with their first victory of the year with the final score of 24 to 8.
Keeton Byerly, seventh-grade quarterback, said he felt positive heading into the game.
“I feel this game will go well and we will win, but it will be a tough game,” Byerly said.
Coach Isaac Mason said he enjoyed watching the seventh-grade team win because he knows how much the players have worked.
After the seventh-grade game, the eighth-grade team took the field. Although the eighth-grade team played a close game, a last-minute play cost them the game.
Boston Burris, eighth-grade running back, got the ball late in the game and made a breakaway run to the endzone. However, referees said he stepped out of bounds, causing a reset of the play. This reset ended up costing the Demons the game.
“I don’t like seeing the players give it a lot of effort just to lose in one play,” Mason said.
The eighth-grade team ended the game 24 to 28, giving Lawton Ike a win for the season.
Tre Petties, eighth-grade wide receiver, said he doesn’t think the team shouldn’t be disappointed in the loss because they played a good game. Petties even offered words of advice for his teammates.
“Keep your head up and keep pushing,” Petties said.
The football teams will play their next game this coming Tuesday against Cache at Cache. The seventh-grade game will start at 5 p.m. The eighth-grade game will follow, starting at 7 p.m.
