Duncan Middle School STEM students took a field trip to Oklahoma City to visit the OKC Zoo.
Rosie Castle’s sixth-hour STEM students participated in the field trip on Oct. 1; her first and second-hour classes went to the zoo on Oct. 8. The classes were taken on separate days to reduce the number of students attending the trip on any given day.
The students left around 8:30 a.m. and got back around 2:45 p.m.
For lunch, the students could take their own food or get sack lunches.
“Walking around was my favorite part of the trip,¨ eighth-grader Kyndell Howell said
The day wasn’t just a trip to the zoo to look at animals. The trip also included a scavenger hunt for the students. The students would text a number, which was supplied by Castle, as a way to communicate.
Students would go around taking pictures with a least one person from their group in the picture. They would then send the photo to Castle.
In the groups, everyone had to be involved, either in finding stuff for the scavenger hunt or being in the pictures.
Eighth-grader Deztini Eaton said that she felt very involved.
The zoo showed many different things from elephants and giraffes to flamingos and koi fish.
Students had around 1 hour and 30 minutes to walk around the zoo, look for five different things and eat lunch. Students could be in groups of two to six people.
